Day 19/34 Portomarín - Palas de Rei
We woke very early and headed for breakfast before heading off on our day. Coffee and tosta - the tosta is fresh baguette toasted - hard to miss my Vogel’s with this option!
I guess we just have to get used to the increase in the numbers of pilgrims - but it is truly significant. A lot of people start in Sarria. There are lots of groups - school kids (boys from Ireland on school trip), girlfriends away for a week together, walking but also enjoying having a very social time. Mike read they advertise this section as the “Classic Camino”! Not sure what they call the whole Camino journey- the “Real Camino” - maybe!
We walked with Rosalie and Dennis for a few hours. An older couple from Houston.
A long walk today so we had quite a few stops - the weather was very misty and didn’t clear until mid afternoon. I started out in shorts but had to layer up to keep warm.
We didn’t arrive till 5pm so headed out for a beer then dinner. More octopus for Mike! Stopped off for a beer at tiny local bar. Really good red wine for €1.50. Meet Annette from Denmark. She has walk from SJPP, on her own but buddied up with two others for most of her journey until Sarria.
Breakfast €7
Lunch & coffees €12
Dinner €20
Drinks €15
Bed €70
