Day 3/18 Sahagun - Leon
Distance: 55k
We made it. Three days on the bike. We really should’ve prepared better but apart from Mike’s sore butt we are great. We got started at 0800.
I grabbed the most delicious looking just baked croissants and pana chocolate to have with our first coffee stop.
It was only 3d this morning - my fingers don’t know 3d and were numb. Today was another challenge with long stretches of gravelled paths, slow inclines and more gravelled paths - approx 25k of the 55k we did today.
On one incline today we were in our lowest gear and barely moving when an elderly women breezed past us. We were impressed at her agility. We crossed paths at one of our coffee breaks and to our relief noticed she was on an electric bike!
We got to León and asked a girl for directions. She kindly googled our hotel and pointed us in the right direction - she obviously realised she misguided us and found us to give us the right info. So lovely. This is typical of locals to help Pilgrims along the way.
As we had missed the bike drop off point, we checked in to our lovely hotel then unloaded our side packs and returned the bikes - approx 1k away.
León is a beautiful city. It reminds me a bit of Venice - lots of small cobbled streets leading into open areas with shops and cafes.
We have a whole day off here, so time to explore before our feet start walking - Sunday!
A few refreshments around the cathedral and dinner before bed.
People we met
Lea from Brazil (picture)
Neve from Ireland
Vicky & Neil from UK
Costs
Breakfast €3.80
Lunch €7
Refreshments €18
Dinner €35
Bed €95

Harry Well, there's your answer, next time you do the Camino, order an electric bike. But stay well ahead of those people on conventional bikes that you pass.
Min I’d be on an ebike !
Mark Just discovered your blog. Awesome! Scrolled back to
Mark ...your other trips as well. Thanks for the blog :)
Kaye Tollenaar I like Harry's suggestion! Sounds brilliant. Enjoy the next stage, eager to hear more.
Cathy Bet you're relieved to be off the bike. Enjoy the first day of the walk phase. Bring me back one of those fresh croissants. Mmmm! Wish I was there. Have fun guys. X
