This morning we were woken hours before our alarm due to the fact that out jungle adventure was going to be in the centre of some sort of celebration and there would be rocket fireworks exploring all around us, so in theory, if we got there early there would be less danger...or something like that. So we piled into a car and drove to the jungle adventure/zip lining place where we suited up into our sexy helmets and harnesses before being driven into the jungle where zip lines went from tree to tree for kilometers getting higher and higher in the jungle before eventually crossing a huge lake to the end platform. So 12 of us climbed onto rickety platform after rickety platform high up in the trees being bitten by ants before being pushed off the platform across the zip line through the trees, literally curling into a ball as you rushed through the branches. I'm making it sound terrible but it was such a thrill! The worst (and best) bit was the rickety rotten rope ladders that we had to clamber along from tree to tree. There were pieces of wood tied between the rope placed every so often that you had to walk on, sometimes there were 5 people on these rope ladders about 30 meters above the ground. But it was so much fun, and I now have a few bruises from crash landing but hey, I could have fallen out of a tree so it could have been worse! We then went to 'Tiger Kingdom'. Now I know that the elephants that we rode are well treated and the keepers have a lot of love for their elephants but these tigers were kept in little enclosures in fake environments with 4 or 5 other tigers. I didn't think that this was a very healthy environment for these animals and after seeing them in their enclosures all doped up I made the decision not to go in and cuddle and pet them, it made me feel so uncomfortable that we as humans would capture wild animals and keep them in unfamiliar environments for our entertainment. So instead I had a good chat with the woman who took us on our hill tribe trip before we headed back to the Gap Medics house to have a nap. There were a lot of new students that had arrived throughout the weekend and a lot of 'old' students that had flown out back to their homes. The new old people (the people that arrived the week that I did) had the chance to go to the Sunday night market in the centre of Chiang Mai which was great fun. I swear I'm going to come back to Australia and be shocked at how expensive everything is and try to barter the price with the shop keepers!
I cannot believe that I have been here for a week already and that ill be flying home to Australia in 5 weeks, time has flown!!
