Today was rather unproductive in terms of surgeries and births, we spent a lot of the day waiting for doctors that we could shadow so eventually we went to the ob/gyn ward where babies were having their blood taken for testing of various viruses. The mothers blood and amniotic fluid are tested while she is pregnant however 48 hours after the baby is born they are also tested. After this we got to cuddles the babies. Now for anyone that knows me knows that I adore babies and cannot wait to have my own one day so it was so lovely to be able to cuddle these teenie tiny babies. A nurse then took us around the ob/gun ward and changed dressings and checked up on women who had given birth in the last 48 hours checking that they were healing well. One woman had severe tearing during childbirth so she needed to be stitched back up and monitored for sign of infection.
After we got back from the hospital i packed a bag for my hill tribe experience packing only my camera and a spare pair of clothes. There were 8 of us going on hill tribe so we all introduced ourselves (I'm finding it incredibly difficult to remember 70 people's names, and to make it more difficult, 25 people are leaving on Sunday and 29 new people are arriving!!!) Anyway we all piled into card and drove for two hours before arriving at little huts up in the mountains. We had dinner and headed off to bed before our big day tomorrow!
