This morning there wasn't a whole lot happening once we arrived at the hospital so we went to the OT and found an interesting surgery. A woman had a prolapsed uterus with a mass growing on it so she was having a vaginal hysterectomy. At first we just watched this from the window because we were told that the woman had TB and nobody wants TB. But we were called in, so our masks went on a we watched by the doctors side.
After lunch a male doctor approached us and told us that he was going to show us around the wards so we followed him into the ob/gyn ward where women who have had surgery on their reproductive system or new mothers are recovering. The doctor visited all of the patients that he had operated on checking their recovery, making sure that they were healing well. He then explaining to us of their surgeries an taught us a lot before telling us that compassion is the most important part of his job. My respect for him is immense, he respected his patients and showed such kindness and dedication towards them. He then took us to many other wards of the hospital, ICU, neonatal, labour ward, radiology, emergency and to the GP explaining different patients conditions and recovery stages. At the end of the day he wanted to have a photo with us all because he thought that we were great students. He then told me that one day I will be a great doctor and in return i told him that I have a lot of respect for him and the way that he treats his patients and that I learnt a lot from him, he seemed very pleased by this and bowed at me. In Thailand you put your hands in prayer position and bow your head to everybody that you have respect for. So that was really lovely.
We all go out for dinner on Thursday nights and then out to Zoe's bar that basically becomes an outdoor nightclub full of sweaty drunk people spilling into the street. First imagine taking 70 people out for dinner, then imagine taking them to Zoe's where drinks are had (some more than others) before trying to find everyone and piling them all into mini buses and back to home. There will be a few sorry people in the morning!
