Started with breakfast in the town nearest to the Phong Nha National Park - where we went yesterday to see the cave. We then joined the Ho Chi Minh Trail or at least the one that connected the east Ho Chi Minh Trail with the west. It was built during the war to allow the north to get soldiers and supplies to the south. It is now a road linking 2 towns 260km apart and 4 remote villages. It is deserted for most of its length and it goes through some of the most dramatic scenery possible.
It could be because I was on the back of a motorbike but OMG it was great - that road is a bikers dream. If it is not going up or down very steeply, it is twisting and turning and always along a mountain with fabulous views one side or the other - actually, often both.
All was well until the clutch on Sheila's bike went - so we had a coffee and the boys discussed what to do the bike with a villager. It was decided to limp to the next village which was a bit bigger. We had lunch while the boys discussed what to do. There wasn't really much of a choice - we either went on or not. We went on.
Amazingly while we were stretching our legs walking along some rice fields - the boys fixed it. Bruno says "he loves his bike" - we agree.
We could now pick up speed so had time to visit, but not swim at, Chenh Venn waterfall.
It really has been a great day.
