Rice, pepper, tea and coffee we saw all these growing today. Sadly we also saw a great deal of plastic rubbish.
The rice fields were pretty and it must take years to build them and months to maintain them. Everything around here is done by hand. Also one familymay own only a couple of the small fields - so not a lot.
The tea is now cut by machine, except the really expensive stuff and the bottom has dropped out of the pepper and rice market. This area is poor.
We also stopped at a drum making room - can’t call it a factory as all it is, is a room where they carve out drums. We saw one that was taller than me carved out of one piece of trunk. We also saw some made like a barrel. They use buffalo skin for the ends.
A very long ride but very different. Maureen and Ameria are finding it difficult- monkey bums as the boys call it.
