Yesterday was supposed to be a fairly chilled day but ended up being quite full on! We woke up feeling not too tired and we both facetimed home to check in which was nice. Kate had friends from uni passing through Auckland so met up for a delicious cookie (very healthy breakfast). We discovered where the supermarket was and stocked up on stuff to make sandwiches and pasta for the evenings. The rest of the afternoon was spent in Auckland museum which was full of all things Maori, there was an exhibition about Everest on and also it houses the war memorial. By this point the tiredness had caught up with us so a short nap turned into quite a long nap for Kate but she was rudely awoken by the fire alarm going off at about 8pm! So we had to evacuate, luckily Kate took her bag with her and we went to grab a coffee from Starbucks to avoid waiting in the rain - 5 fire engines turned up! But false alarm fortunately. We cooked our pasta pretty late just finishing at around 10pm when some guys from the hostel, a German, an Irish and a Dutch said they were going out and did we want to come. The bar was really quite snazzy and was really interesting to chat to all these different people. Turned out the Irish guy is an actor and quite well known in Ireland!
Today, Kate and I along with the German guy (Philip) and the Dutch guy (Daan) caught the ferry to Devonport. We climbed mount Victoria which gave stunning views of the city, and of the volcano on the other side. Stopped off at a pub on the way back for a glass of wine in the sun. I think on the first day I got sunburnt on the back of my neck so that's feeling a bit sore.
