As our two intrepid travellers reached Queenstown their spirits were refreshed by the vibrant city.
The small but sweet town was buzzing as Jazz Festival and Labour Weekend revellers spilled out onto the streets and milled around the busy bars, resturants and lake front.
Surrounded by 'The Remarkables' (mountains) and fringed by the lakes, Martyn was inspired to see this beautiful town from another level - 12000 ft above sea level that is!
A confident Martyn arrived at the jump zone with anticipation and excitement in his belly. This however was shortlived as the realisation of what he was about to do suddenly hit home. A sunkissed young man soon turned into a white quivering mess as he nervously put on his jump suite. Martyn was strapped tightly to his instructor (Greg) and was soon to step onto the shoddy excuse for a plane.
Within minutes Martyn had reached the dizzy heights of 12000 ft and his instructor gave him the infamous tap on the shoulder... "get ready to jump, bro".
3,2,1 and Martyn was on his way. Hurtling toward his anxious yet striking girlfriend as she waited on the firm ground beneath him. Whilst adopting the banana pose (as injstructed by Greg), Martyn absorbed the spectacular site that lay out before him. With a firm pull on the rip cord, the parachute was deployed and Martyn returend safely to earth... much to the delight of a relieved yet bored Rachel.
These kids know how to have a good time and thought they would show Queenstown how Swindoners do it.
Joining the twenty strong crowd of backpackers the glamorous couple went on "The Big Night Out" where Martyn drank tequilla from Rachels stomach (for a pizza voucher) and played a spiffing game of limbo. Rachel walked away with a $200 voucher for Paragliding so in the next day or two this brave adventurer will be throwing herself off of a 5000ft high cliff into the abyss. For someone who quite happily states 'I am not a fan of heights, I hate fair ground rides and I get motion sickness' we can only say bravo Rachel, bravo.
