Here is a compilation of our various stops on the remainder of the South Island.
After Queenstown we went to Dunedin for a night. This is the Edingburgh of New Zealand and most of the architecture and street names are very reminscent of Scotland (the Scottish settlers were missing their home town!)
We treated ourselves here by staying at a hotel and had a huge room and.... a bath! I was in there for a good few hours! Martyn was enjoying the complimentary Sky Sports, which is a huge luxury when if you even get a telly in your room you are normally restricted to 2 channels.
On our walk around the city we spontaneously decided to get our hair cut so we went in the nearest salon and sat side by side having our haircut and thinking what are we doing! Mine was just a trim but Martyns sideburns are gone. And he brought gel the other day - a total revamp.
After Dunedin we went to Lake Tekapo for one night. Wasnt a great deal to do there - a big lake but we've seen 100's now! so we all had a bbq and a tv night before up bright and early to Christchurch.
We went rugby mad in Christchurch and went to the countrys semi final between Canterbury and Wellington and were cheering them on from the freezing cheapseats! The next day we went to a really cool sports bar called the holy grail and watched another game - i am converted, a great sport especially now i understand it.
From Christchurch we went back to Kaikoura from an evening before heading up to get the ferry to the North Island the next day. There isnt normally much to do at Kaikoura on a Sunday (we learnt this from the last time we were there, everything closes down from Sunday to Tuesday - all bars and resturants and shops etc) but we were lucky as they were holding their version of Ascot there so we went for a cheeky bet or two and basked in the sun.
