After a couple of nights on the razzle we decided to take it easy in Taupo. A picturesque town with lots going on and a really nice vibe. We arrived in Taupo around 2pm and decided to take a stroll along the river to the Haka falls. Hake falls is basically a waterfall/rapids in the river which apparently attracts the most visitors to a natural site in New Zealand. We found this a little hard to believe as it wasn't anything special. The weatjher was lovely, as was the scenery so we took our time and eventually walked back to the hostel. After cooking a beautiful chicken salad we sat in the lounge room and watched Training Day. After feeling quite manly, i decided to get stuck into one of Rachel's "chick lits" (a girly romantic book) which i surprisingly found to be a very enjoyable read. Precious time by Erica James if you're interested. Be warned, have the tissues at the ready.
Having parted me from EJ, Rachel and i wondered into town the next day and basked in the glorious sunshine with a few drinks in a local bar. Rachel was adament we'd only stay for one drink... a bottle of wine later and we were still there! Oh well, when in Rome and all that.
