My flight from Lalibela was delayed by a couple of hours. My original plan was to go to Addis and get a room for few hours and come back to airport at 1am for my flight. With the late flight I decided to hang around at airport. I know the most boring airport in the world now.
I arrived in Cairo at 6.30 in the morning and it is 28deg and predicted to get to 38. Lovin it. I found a hotel and they have room but not now so I left my bag and went to explore. I'm in the down town area so there are hotels everywhere. I went to Tahrir square, that is where they had all the trouble in 2011. While walking around I found a new hotel so I went back and got my bag and swapped. I also found the train station and bought a ticket on the sleeper to Aswan in a couple of days. I'm filling in time and looking around at the same time.
I bought a new pair of thongs in Axum and they were soo comfortable. Yesterday I developed a blister on my toe? Iv worn them everyday for weeks and all of a sudden I get a blister? Go figure?
I lost my camera in Gonder so I been making do with me iPad. Do you know how hard it is to buy a camera? I can't ask someone cos then they want to take me to the shop and get massive commission. I have looked everywhere and can't find one. Even duty free at Cairo didn't have, only when u flying out can I get one so my mission today is to get camera and either see the pyramids or the museum. Let's see how I go.
I went to the museum. It is an amazing place. They have stuff everywhere. There is stuff packed up to go, stuff on pallets, stuff shoved into displays, it is everywhere. Lonely planet says you gotta check your bag and camera etc so I thought no photos but you can take photos of most stuff so I will go back and get some pics next time I am in Cairo. Walking around ya start to think this is more of the same then spot something and think wow look at that? The mummy rooms are a bit out there, you can really see the mummy's. you can't take pics there or in the King Tut room, which is also amazing. To see his funeral mask and pics of the stuff in the tomb? It looks like a hoarder lived there, there was heaps of stuff stacked everywhere.
My other mission for the day, to get a camera isn't going too well. I thought I found the place but they only do big stuff and Radio shack are on drugs at their prices. It looks like I might have to bend over soon and pay the price. Who would have thought it would be this hard to buy a camera?
Tonight I went for a walk to get Shwarma for dinner and finally found a camera shop. The camera cost me a bomb and I couldn't find the schwarma but on the upside I bought a new pair of shoes. I might have to wear them for a while cos the blister on my toe is getting bigger.
Tomorrow I'm going to brave the subway here down to Giza and see the pyramids and tomorrow night I'm on the sleeper train to Aswan.
I'm trying to keep this as up to date as Pos cos face book has locked my account?

Ngaere Our camera is playing up too and we have had trouble finding a new one. We have given up and just beat the old one into submission. The museum is great. Did you see the really little statue of Cheops. It is the only item left of him. Look for it, you will be surprised. Enjoy the ruins. Stay safe.
jware Your traveling days sound like mine. Such simple tasks turn into all-out quests. Good luck!
