Well what a surprise.
I thought civilisation started with the Egyptians and the Romans? Somehow the Egyptians got left behind. They are so third world in so many ways. That has been a shock to me. I expected the usual thing in a country with a big population and it is every man for himself but this is beyond that.
They treat their country like a rubbish tip. I remember writing that once before but this is the worst I have seen. It really is a rubbish tip.
The traffic is crazy. They just make up the rules as they go and constantly use the horn. The other day they were sitting at a red light, a bloke pulled up about six cars back and hit the horn? Really?
The roads are terrible. Some of the roads here they have used for thousands of years and I don't think they have done any maintenance on them in all that time. Really one street from the main highway and you are on a dirt road with potholes big enough to swallow a whole car.
I thought there would be more ruins. The ones I saw were great but I expected more. Really there is Abu Simbel, Luxor and Giza with a couple of little ones in between. You could see them all in ten days or spend a few weeks.
I can't believe how cheap the country is. When I looked I thought it was going to be expensive cos everything costs money to get in. Up to one hundred pounds. The arse dropped out of the Egyptian pound about six months ago and now we get double for the dollar so everything is really cheap. Hotels about ten dollar, transport about five dollar and meals less than five dollars. I think it is the second cheapest country I have travelled in after Myanmar.
Now to the other end of the spectrum to Morocco, o e of the most expensive countries I have been to.

danv That's great for you John, because we all know you like to be cheap. With the money you save, you can buy presents.
Nagere The tips they expect are the most expensive - not that they got it from me.
