I got the bus from Hurghada to Cairo cos it is easier to go this way, I can take the train from here to Pt Said.
At the bus station in Hurghada a big fat Muslim Sheila showed up and I thought pity the person sitting next to her. She was massive. You guessed it, it was me. When I found my seat she was sitting there and had a kid on my seat. She said OK and put the kid on her lap along with a massive handbag and a bag of food. The 4-5hr bus ride turned into over 6hr for some reason. In that time she inhaled a packet of biscuits, 3 bags of chips and 2 Twinkies, mostly while the kid was asleep with his feet all over me, and went for something to eat at the truck stop. I suppose she was trying to keep her strength up. I swear I could feel her arse getting bigger as we drove.
I came back to the hotel I was at last time in Cairo cos I know the area and it is OK. The guy here tried to charge me double what I paid last time. We had words and I got a different room. I am in a dorm, I don't do dorms, but I got this one all to myself. Only problem is shared bathroom but I will put up with that for now. I might move today. I will look around and see what is available.
I was way too busy today to move so I will put up with it again tonight cos I leaving early tomorrow. I had a plan today to go to the Citadel. Lonely planet says to take a taxi but you know how much I hate the taxi mafia I will walk, and I have to get a ticket on the way. My plan was to go to station and get ticket then zig zag through some highlights of the old Cairo. Head through Khan al-Khalili, to Al Azhar through Darb al-Ahmar to the Citadel. I set off at 8.30 and didn't get back till 3.30, so it was a major walk. I did get a little lost a couple of times but I eventually got there.
There were a lot of mosques so after a while I stopped taking photos of them. Some of the old buildings are really cool but the streets are too narrow to be able to get a good photo. When I got to the Citadel i was pretty knackered and wanted a drink, they were all charging $25 for a $5 drink. I told them to shove it. I was soo stuffed I took a taxi back to the city and walked from the bus station.
Tomorrow I will, have to try to buy my train ticket at the station. I didn't get it this morning cos I didn't want to go that early (6am) but it looks like I will have to cos I can't find a bus at a reasonable time. It should be fine.
