We journeyed to the hope saddle lookout. It's so green and there are so many mountains. Then we headed to Murchison and followed the Buller river west, through the Buller gorge to Westport. The highlight of Westport was the info centre...bought some Paua shell earrings. Paua (Haliotis Iris) are only found in NZ coastal waters. Paua is a mollusc and ther Maori traditionally used them for adornments for their wood carvings.
Headed to Cape Foulwind (didn't smell) to check out the waves crashing against the rocks. It was so sunny and at last we had the chance to just wear our t-shirts yeaaa! Walked up to the lookout and watched the fur seals for a bit.
Arrived in Greymouth and most of the bus (inc the driver) headed to Monteiths brewery for a tour and some free beer! The guide talked like a typewriter and kept staring at Johno, Hannah and my feet because we were wearing thongs..weird. We went on to the railway hotel for all you can eat BBQ and more Monteiths. Oh dear got very tipsy while playing drinking games with the guys and ended up hungover for the entire of the next day! even had to spend the day in bed when we got to Franz Josef and missed out on the glacier! gutted!
