Our last day in Hobart - I don’t know where the time has gone but 2 weeks has passed and tomorrow we fly back to Queensland. We went to the top of Mount Wellington this morning and were warned that it could be cold up there in spite of it being reasonably warm at sea level. Took advantage of a washer and dryer in our apartment we got all the laundry done. We were then taken for a walking tour of Hobart. This is a great city very small and easy to negotiate. We walked around Battery Point around the harbour and into the cathedral and then through the shopping area. All very compact, low rise and spacious. You can see the British influence in some of the buildings and even in the trees, as there are old Oak and Lime trees in the park...

This morning we left Strahan for th last of our journeys around Tasmania. Heading for our final stop in Hobart the capital. This was a 4-5 hour drive and the most demanding for our valiant driver Bill. I have never been on a road with so many twists and turns. Another early start this morning but we only had to walk across the road. We were booked on the Gordon River Cruise. This river is famous for its still waters and magnificent reflections. Our vessel was a very upmarket catamaran style boat, it was only 7 months old and was very swish. Again it was a non stop food fest, but hey you only pass this way once. An early start this morning as we were off on a 9 hour railway journey. It ran from the coast at Strahan where we are staying up to Queenstown and was originally built to bring copper down from Queenstown to the coast. The terrain was a rainforest and quite impenetrable but these pioneers managed to get a railway through. It was a steam train built in Glasgow and not a huge engine compared to some I’ve seen.
