USA Travels
A long drive today taking in the Portuguese port of Galle and a wonderful turtle sanctuary. Arrival late at the hotel led on to a cocktail party and an offer (negotiated by me) of 20% off at the a la carte for the evening meal. fabulous. Oops, left a donation at the turtle sanctuary and Ruth tells me she has been bitten by bugs there. Better keep quiet! The hotel has live music, a huge pool and if the food is anything to go by will look good in daylight. What to say about the trip? Overall very good. The guide, could do better, we only know this because we have had better. Miles travelled in a day. Significant. Lots of long days in the minibus. The country brilliant. Much more lush than Indochina. Spectacular views. Interesting visits but too many temples. A better guide would have made these more interesting. Good standard hotels with the usual amusing new world problems, all sorted thanks to man power! Overall a very enjoyable time with great people for company. Two nights now with a free day between. Our guide has b*****ed off leaving me his mobile number- at last! We are thinking of training it down from Colombo to Galle at a massive cost of 65 rupee each. Less than 40p for a 100km journey. Saw the train coming past - may take a taxi! Take care Ruth & David
