Hi again. It's now 6pm on Wednesday night about a hour before dark and I'm plonked in a deck chair under the awning and it's still about 30 deg (with not even a cool breeze ), b*****!The humidity started off this morning at 95 % before dropping back to a more respectable 50%.
After a couple of quiet days sorting out the odd problem (the fridge is struggling so had to cut a hole in side of van and fit a grill) and then Steph caught a cold of all things so today we finally had a good day in the City. The picture shows the truck which took us around town telling of Japanese bombing attacks (64 here) and then Cyclone Tracy which flattened 70% of the town.
Darwin now is a modern town with a population of about 126000 and very well laid out with no major traffic hassles.
During the tour we stopped off at a war relics museum most of it outside, 4.5 acres with every type on gun from machine guns to massive 9" ship cannons which were really quite amazing.
Inside was a film and sound reinactment of the attack day that was seemed very real life. Awesome !!!
After a late lunch we visited the Darwin Aviation museum which was housed in a very large hanger along with lots of fighter jets and helicopters and a original full size B52 bomber. I could not get over the huge size of this plane .
You could hide 2 fighter jets under each wing! I love planes and enjoyed the Australian Air Force training exercise here with lots of very loud jets zooming over head for four days.
Steph is feeling a lot better now so we plan to hit the town again tomorrow and experience a few more attractions. Bye for now.
xxx Chris and Steph.
PS hope you are all keeping nice and warm!
Stephanie adds. I was lucky to get Chris back on Sunday as he had forgotten where we were staying so didn't know what bus to take to get back from the car racing. He tried to phone but I was over getting the washing in (yes chores still need to be done). Fortunately he then saw someone who had been on the bus going there so all turned out ok.
