Hi again guys, well it's just about happy hour again on Sunday night so I'll fill you in since our last blog.
We left the quiet camp area at The Standley Chasm and drove back into Alice to re fuel and top up supplies then headed north again . The speed limit is open so you can go as fast as you like on those big long straight roads that disappear into a watery mirage into the distance .
It's funny because the next sign will say the speed limit drops down to 130km in the next km so slow down then another will say speed limit drops to 100 km slow down as a roadhouse comes up, hardly worth taking the van out of cruise control as we float along at a relaxing 95 km!
By 4pm and having clocked up approx. 350 km we pulled into another roadside camp with about 20 others .
I enjoyed a beer with another couple till about dark and the temp was still 26 deg.! You meet some really nice and friendly people while camping, ( some too friendly ) so we have a secret question that Steph asks me to find out if I need rescuing !!
There was a huge electrical storm at 2 am with noises winds heavy rain and lighting that lit up the inside of the van with loud thunder that rolled on for ages. Steph was a bit scared and required a reassuring cuddle although all I was worried about was the rain on the red ground under the van turning to mud as it does and getting stuck .
No need to worry as the morning at 7 am was 18 deg. fine with clear skies and the dry ground had sucked up all the rain . After a (now quite common ), leisurely breakfast we hit the road by 9.30 am and drove to a place called The Devils Marbles that are an amazing collection of boulders stacked on top of each other and formed just by erosion .
A very enjoyable walk around the rock formations was had until the temp and humidity told the flies that the dinner bell had just gone off. We are in a nice roadside camp after a (nana nap) although it will probably be a bit noisy with the road trains and it's 30 deg in the van!
Time to grab a cold one and find shade at a outside BBQ table bye for now.
PS. Have a nice week at work!

Marj I'd love to know what the secret question is! Sounds like you are having the life of Riley. Enjoy :-)
