Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Leaving the Royal Palace Museum I could hear the clomping of many horses hooves nearby on the cobbled streets. There were also canons firing so I wanted to see what was going on. I followed round to the other side of the Palace and saw a long parade of horses with uniformed riders in a procession
I tried to get to the front to see where they were heading. They were gathering in the courtyard of the Royal Palace but there were already large crowds and tv crews waiting.
People must have been camped out to get a spot so I could barely see anything. I managed to squeeze and push my way thru the closed courtyard to a narrow crowded area on the opposite side.
Now I could see better the entire Royal Family was out watching the events. The men were in uniforms while the ladies stood to one side. Occasionally they would dance along to the band music with their small children.
No speeches or announcements were being made but there were lots of different drills and manouvers. This was the first time I'd ever seen real Royals in person and not on tv. British Royals you would never be able to stumble onto an event and get this close like I did.
While everything was silent at one point a dog started barking at the soldiers approach which got a chuckle from everyone.
I have no idea what this event was, I happened to chance on it but the locals seemed to know. I'm guessing something to do with May 1 and the start of spring.
All of this was going on for more than an hour and was becoming tedious squashed in the crowd. As I had more than enough pictures I tried to make my way out.
I found a unique burger restaurant where you ordered and paid at a kiosk then waited for your number to be served your order. Maybe because of the holiday but it was taking ridiculously long and I waited more than 20 mins. This was supposed to be the express line by ordering from the machine.
The restaurant was packed with what seemed like lots of school graduates wearing sailors caps. This seemed to be the traditional as most of the young people had these caps on around town as though the end of the school term.
My burger set was 69K ($10). I thought I ordered a chicken burger but got something else.
