Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Leaving the Royal Palace I was going to walk thru the old Gamla Town and find my way to my hotel. What surprised me on my first visit was that Stockholm is not a traditional city on a landmass but a collection of pebble like islands joined by bridges.
Gamla Town the original old town sits on its own island of a few city blocks with a couple of smaller connecting islands. Last time I stayed on a ship hostel facing the old town but didnt venture much into the rest of the city.
This time my hotel was on the larger Sodermalm south island which I never visited last time. I was making my way thru Gamla Towns old winding streets heading south to the bridge connecting me to Sodermalm.
There were elevated train lines and nice views of the city though it was becoming windy towards evening. The shoreline along Sodermalm was filled with various boat hotels or restaurants.
Eventually I found my boat hotel after passing a long line of ships trying to find the right one. It was quite charming but the room was barely big enough for one person even though its advertised as a two person room.
As advertised it did have amazing views of the city from the cabin window. I also read online there was a viewing terrace on the cliff face overlooking the city by the hotel.
I was navigating the paths by the cliff trying to find the walking platform but just found a big rocky area. A rabbit happened to chance by after a passing shower and rainbow.
I decided to take the metro which I hadnt been in yet to some of the larger bridges on the south side of Sodermalm Island.
The metro was something else I wanted to explore as like St Petersburg it was quite unique in each station design.
I found the park which had some cherry blossom and a colourful group of city joggers. On my return I found the staircase to the viewing terrace.
I was finally able to get the amazing city views I'd seen pics of on the internet. It was also nice as the sun was now starting to set.
Back in the hotel there were also amazing sunset views of the city from the cabin window.

Wendy Morrison I like the boat hotel Asif. The palace is most definitely my style!
