Deb's Adventures
This morning we managed to get up pretty early and head over to National Monument before the it got too hot. The Temperatures have been between 90 and 100 degrees every day. Lesley is loving it. The rest of us are slightly melting.
National Monument is one of our National Parks and is amazing. The first half of the 23 mile drive was full of canyons and spectacular views looking down over the Grand Valley. Ray read to us from the visitors guide as we drove from scenic overlook to scenic overlook. We all learned how the canyons and the rock outcroppings were formed. The second half of the drive was full of rock monuments and crazy rock towers which was also quite impressive.
After spending the morning exploring National Monument we headed into Grand Junction for lunch and to check out the shops on Main Street. Lunch was awesome. We ate at a little dive place called Fins Grill which specialized in wild caught, sustainable, Alaskan seafood.
Most towns in Colorado have flowers all over their Main Street area. Not Grand Junction. They have sculptures everywhere. We walked around perusing the shops and really enjoying the sidewalk art.
The plan was to stay for the evening farmers market. We thought the market started at 3pm but found out that it didn't start until 5. At around quarter to three we were all drained form the heat and all the walking we had done. We found a brewery and sat inside in the air conditioning and had a beer. We all decided we could not make it another 2 hours for the market.
We piled back into the car and found a Sprouts grocery store and restocked our esky with fish, fruits and veggies and a little dark chocolate too. We headed back to the hotel and Ray cooked us a beautiful Fish dinner on our $6 grill. We are very proud of our grill. It will be coming with us to our next location. In the morning we are saying goodbye to Palisade and traveling up the hill a little ways to Glenwood Springs. I am hoping the temperature will be a little cooler there.
