Deb's Adventures
This morning we packed everything back into the van or the short blue bus as we have affectionately named it and said goodbye to our wonderful Kutuk condo. Ray, Lesley and I wandered around the downtown area of Steamboat and checked out all the shops. Amazingly the only two places where we bought anything were the health food store and the thrift shop or op-shop as the Aussies call it. Eric found a little coffee shop with internet access and did a little job searching.
We left Steamboat just before noon. We had 188 miles to drive today to Palisade Colorado. Palisade is the center of Colorado wine country and is also home to several organic farms and orchards. We can't wait to invade the tasting rooms and farm stands.
We stopped in the sleepy little town of Hayden for lunch. We found a quiet little city park and enjoyed our picnic and then wandered on down the road. We also stopped at a grocery store and bought some items to grill out for dinner for the next few nights. Eric and I both remembered there being BBQ Grills at the hotel. We checked in to find out we remembered wrong. Eric ran downtown to Ace and picked up a little disposable grill that will hold us for a few nights.
The Wine Country Inn offers a free glass of wine every night from 5 - 6pm. We are definitely not the type of group to pass up free wine so we made our way down to the bar and found a comfy spot to relax.
After free wine, I love saying that, we prepped our dinner in our rooms and found a beautiful gazebo on the property tucked into the vines and surrounded by amazing views. We worked out our $6 Barbie and grilled some corn and prawns. We of course had salad and everything was wonderful.
The Inn hosted a private wine tasting tonight. It was by invite only and somehow we were not on the list :( After the tasting, a few strong, young men were loading the leftovers into a car right by our picnic spot. A little flirting by Lesley and I and we scored two FREE open bottles of wine. A Petit Verdot and a Cab Franc both about half full.
After dinner we decided to have a swim in the pool. It was a very warm night and it just looked way to inviting to pass up. The pool was refreshing and a nice way to end the day.
