After 9 months in Canada, and living in Vancouver for around 6 of these, it was time to say goodbye.
Vancouver is a great city with so much variety and it will always be a little special to us as it was our first house together.
Although there were no tears as we met Mindy and Ewan, picked up the car and closed our bank accounts.
So it was off to America for a roadtrip that would take us along route 101 to California, well San Francisco to start with. Stop number one was in Aberdeen, just south of Seattle. The only reason anyone would go to this place is becuase it is the birth place of Kurt Cobain and where he wrote Something in the way on the album Nevermind.
Anyhow our first night was on the Oregan coastline next to Canon Beach where the Goonies was filmed. The Oregan costline is stunning, so many gorgeous little coves and beaches. The tent was a huge success, although cold it was errected in no time and we all got some sleep just off the beach.
In the mornig we drove through 2 towns one called Newport and the other Florence which was the most scenic part of the drive. Highly recommended. We camped again just over the Californian border.
Day 3 we had an early start and it was off to drive through the Great Redwood Forest of northern California and the Valley of the Giants. This is also well worth a visit, with attractions such as the drive through tree and some of the oldest redwoods in the world. It was extremely picturesque.
Then it was down to San Francisco, driving straight over the Goldern Gate Bridge as we entered. San Francisco has always been imortalised as of the best places to visit in the USA and it is many peoples favourite city. It didn't disappoint. We rode the tram, visited the wharf, visited Alcatraz, ate at Joes Crab shack, visted China town and downtown all within 2 days.
We stayed at the Hostelling International and although expensive, it was clean and very safe. The only story that came out of this one was a group of British lads who snored simultaniously the whole night after coming in drunk and fighting!!!!! Made us think twice about hostels! Dave got a better night sleep in the tent.
Megans tram ride was her highlight, and this city became her new favourite. Off to Yosemite tomorrow - bear county.
