Unfinished business in Port Augusta - 14th & 15th November 2012
Having considered in the past that Port Augusta was a one night stop town, we will have now spent 7 nights there. We had enjoyed our previous two times and decided that we had unfinished business and still wanted to visit the Arid Lands Botanic Gardens. This time we went to a different caravan park where we could get a cabin for $55 / night. Turned out to be an excellent ensuite cabin with the only difference that we had to provide our own linen.
The morning was threatening rain so we started with a walk to look at the Spencer Gulf. Here we once again found another connection with Matthew Flinders. He explored the Gulf all those years ago and stood on the red cliffs where we stood today. Still no rain yet so we headed for the Arid Lands Botanic Gardens. After visiting the Visitor Information Centre we opted for the 4.5km walk around the perimeter then returning to walk through some of the planted areas that showcased the plants of different South Australian regions.
Our meal in the centre café was outstanding. By now the rain had started but looked like being short lived so we continued to look at some of the displays until it cleared. Then off back to home at the caravan park.
