Arrived at our overnight stopover, a youth hostel. Chris had booked this one. He and I were very happy with it; Hilary and Gill were pleased to know that we were only staying there for one night. Went out into the small village of Waitomo in search of our evening meal and found a pizzeria. Felt like a cool reception from the staff as we walked in. Later found out why that might have been: when we turned up the staff were just about to shut up shop, and have an early night, due to lack of customers that evening. After managing to eat only half of our very generously sized pizzas we took the remainder with us, in pizza boxes, and went on to Curley's Bar where we drank cold beers whilst watching on TV a close netball match between England and NZ.
