Day 19 - A fine and sunny day, we headed into the city around 9am & met up with Matt (our guide) at Piccadilly Circus for our 2 hour walking tour of the changing of the guard. On the walk down Whitehall towards the palace Matt was full of information on England's Royalty, political history as well as buildings & statues. Our group (14 of us) went to Clarence House to watch the new guard assemble for inspection, the band assemble that were leading the parade then it was off down to Buckingham Palace, marching along with the band and trying to keep up with Matt. It was about a half a mile very brisk walk to join the 1000's at the Palace to view the changeover. The changeover takes about half an hour so then we were off to watch a sentry changeover off Pall Mall. We finished a great tour here then headed through St James's Park to the London Eye. The queues here were long, so we joined the "fast track" queue, grabbed our tickets and were on the ride in 10 minutes. What an amazing ride, and the views over London were even better especially at the very top. Time to get off but someone had left a package in the car so we couldn't leave until it was claimed. After many calls and no one came forward to own it, someone inspected the package n we were allowed to leave - security is very tight. Each car is inspected when emptied. After a quick bite to eat it was a short tube ride from Waterloo to London Bridge station. A short walk from here saw us on London Bridge. Across the bridge we bought a very good self guided tour which took us up 9 storeys to the walkways that span the tops of the towers. From here it was down into the engine rooms below where massive engines control the opening of the bridge (which happens about 20 times a month). From here it was back home to get ready for our show tonight. It was off the tube at Tottenham station and directly across the road into the packed Dominion Theatre to see "We will Rock You" (the musical on the story of the rock band Queen). A great show ended a great day, finally getting to bed around midnight.
