Day 17 - We decided to try for an earlier start than normal, as we wanted to tour the Dover castle before our last motoring trip into London. As it turned out the castle didn't open 'til 10 o'clock. (could of had a sleep-in). We were one of the first to enter this massive castle, with many buildings covering many acres and situated on the cliffs above the town and harbour. It was originally built by Henry II over 2000 years ago. Large cannons are placed around the complex and tunnels connect many of the key positions. It was as recent as WW2 that more tunnels were built to house a hospital and rooms for strategic war planning. The township suffered from many enemy bombing raids during the war but the castle was spared. This place is absolutely amazing. So big and just awesome. Trying to think how this was built is mind boggling. We could have easily spent many more hours there but after 3 hours we hit the motorway for the last time, travelling into London on the M20 which thankfully was incident free. We fuelled the car about 20 miles out of the city and asked a friendly constable (who happened to be fuelling up also) on the best way into Kensington (next to Hyde Park). His advice was of great help to my navigator, who (together with the GPS) got us to our destination with little drama. We have a top floor executive suite (they upgraded us at reception on arrival) with great views over Hyde Park. Can easily see the London Eye from here. Here we will rest up for four days, and looking forward to catching up with Benjamin for lunch tomorrow.

Merlene Bloxsom Hi, Just catching up on your blog. Sounds fabulous and that you are enjoying your time travelling. I still have quite a few to read yet. We are still having "issues" with phone and internet connection so I have some catching up on all your travels. Also been flat out with more renos, cooking and cleaning for Christmas in July as well as looking after Miss Lexie. Take care and keep enjoying.
