So to my distress we had to leave Wanaka! I imagine my grandkids growing up there one day..absolutely stunning, and headed for the Nightlife, adventue capital of New Zealand, Queenstown. On the way the time had come to take life to a new extreme. Yes I decided to book not one but three bungy jumps (code named the Thrillogy). It was only $350 and since one as over $190 i thought why not.
I had nearly bugy jumped before in Falaraki all those years back, but decided against it! This was my shot, and as the "intro to bungy" tour started, me and Irish Mark started to doubt ourselves! This first one was the original AJ Hacket jump off a bridge something like 43 metres high. Believe me when you get up there, it seems a lot higher. I was s***ting myself! Even with a skydive, surfing, snowboarding under my belt the mere thought of throwing myself off a perfectly good bridge was a stupid one!
I was first and to say when i stood at the edge i was bricking it would be an understatement! The guy shouted "1 2 3 Bungy....i stood there questioning how i could have been this stupid! I looked down, looked towards Cat whe was cheering me on with my Camera, poised and ready. And the fear overwelmed me, but the excitement took me and I jumped! Completely the wrong way as the picture shows, your suppose to dive off! About three seconds later i was underwater upto my knees! and being shot back up by the bungy rope. Wow - what a rush! Bouncing up nd down from a big elastic band. I can't wait to do my next two later in the week. Mark i later found out was afraid of heights and chickened out twice before taking the plunge to a massive Zimmee Zimmee support from the crowd.
We arrived into Queenstown a couple of minutes after and to say it was pretty would be an understatement, is is another stunning town. Surrounded by huge mountains which they used in the Lord of The Rings and a still lake that made the town look small and quiet. Queenstown is neither of these, it has massive nightlife, and as Cat and I were walking around town we bumped into Seamas and Catriona, the Irish couple I went to the Neighbours day with in Melbourne! strange but true. The night was set in a bar just next to the hostel, where we had an emotional goodbye to Zoe, James, Mark, Kim, Danielle, the Norweigens and a cool Japanese girl I had befriended and learnt Compar E off (means cheers) I can say it in 9 languages now!
To say the night was messy would be an understatement, lots of drink and some brilliant yet contraversial dance moves came out...especially from Alma and Cat! Cat pulling an Aussie guy Seamas and I drinking heavily and Alma drinking like a trooper.
So for the TEAM, Alma, Cat and I there was the next leg of our journey at 8am the next day to the southern most regions of New Zealand.
