So on Tuesday we decided to continue the theme of getting out of the city and took the guide books advice of going to Stanley. Sadly whilst the journey on the bus to the South of Hong Kong Island and Stanley itself was beautiful the place had become somewhat westernised with an agglomeration of English bars, pizza houses and chip shops littering the waterfront bringing with them typical western tourists and prices.
Being the poor travelling folk we decided to go off the beaten track a little and ended up in a dingy local restaurant. After a lot of pointing, nodding and smiling (English language being obsolete) we managed to convey our order to the friendly waiter/owner/customer. After a good feed and a shed load of rice (ok so the order wasn't perfect) we headed for a chill out on the scenic beach watching locals fish off the jetty and a wander through the market. We found a genius stall that sold somewhat mistranslated signs displaying the English phrase and the Cantonese underneath. My favourite had to be, "your my love, my angle, don't treat me like potato". We also found a stall that sold XXXXXXL clothes!
We returned to the city to meet Owen's friend Donte whom Owen shared a room with during his semester in America and Holly for some socialising over food and a sneaky beer. We returned to the hostel tired for some much needed sleep.
