Day 5 - Namib national park
On the truck for 6:45 am drive 50 kilometres to national park ..... Drive to Dune45 which is 350 metres high ..... Annette was the first to reach the summit and I was second - many of the team didn't make it. Hard work but worth it .... Most returned to the base by the conventional route but at the suggestion of the wild Danish Viking both myself and Annette "skied" down the side face and returned to the truck to meet a welcome breakfast.
The journey continued to the Deadvlei Where with a combination of 4x4 and walking we reached a dead area of cracked clay and trees that had been dead for 900 hundred years ...... Not only insufficient moisture to grow but not even enough to decompose and no bacteria.
In the afternoon we went to the Sessreim Canyon which we walked through and were ambushed by baboons ...... The day was getting really hot now so we returned to the camp, the pool and some very cold beers.
Guess what, some of the Germans speak English and a young couple called Marko and Caroline are becoming quite friendly and good company ...... We may win yet.
