We set sail on the "matador" sailing boat on the 9th with 13 passengers. IT was a smaller group than we'd expected but turned out to be better for everyone. Our crew were great hosts with Aussie's Skipper Andrew and the Deckhand J-Dog (Justin) keeping everyone entertained. Sailing out initially was abit rough and after some of us had helped to lift the sail-Andrew ripped through it after an hour lol... The boat dipped on the port side also known as the "suicide" lol which was eventful. We put anchor at Hook's Point as the thunder and lightening came in.
The next morning we sailed (or rather used the engine) to White Haven Beach, we were the first ones to arrive out of all the boats-probably because Andrew had the engines going at 5.30am. No rest for the wicked...or rather the sailors! We were glad to leave due to sea sickness.
The beach was beautiful and even though we had to wear the stingers suits whilst in the water it was well worth the views at the lookout point. We even got to see a stingray and green sand sharks right up close as they were in the shallows. Whoop!! :)
After lunch it was snorkling time off another of the Whitsunday islands spots where the great barrier reef starts. Ali and I suprised ourselves by venturing into the coral and being at one with the fishes lol. It was extremely peaceful under the water and the characters from Nemo were amazing to see. The day proceeded with laughs and competitions off the diving board or rather the plank as Justin called it. We also fed "fluffy" the resident eagle meat for some sport as he dived off the cliffs.
That night it was fun and games playing charades-strange with so many foreigners as not many English were aboard. Then it was "eat my Box" which involved picking up a cereal box without the use of your hands. Flexible work!! The next morning we intended to dive but there were too many stingers about to even go into the water with our suits on-we didn't want to risk it! After that it was back to Airlie Beach for 11oclock that morning and we couldn't arrive early enough as the sea sickness started up again-we won't be getting our sea legs any time soon although Justin did say Ali was a natural steering the wheel! :)hahahah
It was then free drinks with the people on the boat on the evening back at the hostel. Happy days!! :)
A great sailing trip!!!!
