Fraser Island was awesome, we cannot put it into words! Really enjoyed ourselves driving the 4x4 on the beach and inland. The weather wasn't the best, unfortunately we had hit a cyclone that had travelled down from Cairns and hit us square on! We had a really nice group and we all camped together on the beach the first night-getting up at 6 in the morning as it was high tides to make our way to Lake Mckenzie. This is a beautiful lake, the water was so clear and suprisingly warm-we virtually had the lake to ourselves. Fun and games in the water! The second lake we went to was Lake Wabbi, this wasn't as nice as it was overun with march flys and the water was murky and smelly!
The following night the weather was too bad to camp in the tents so we had to book in to the only hostel on the island at Eurong Resort! We all felt like we hadn't slept in a bed for weeks but it had only been one night. :) The driving was awesome, we had to go pretty slow though as it can be quite dangerous with the jeep being top heavy. We arrived alive as luke would say! We got stuck in the sand once but it was all part of the fun-pushing the back of the jeep to get moving again! We made some great friends and had a brilliant time! :)))))
Rainbow Beach is the place you stay either side of the Fraser Island 3 day 2 night trip. It is a small town, not much to do or see. We went with a guide called Luke, on a free walking tour to the sand blow lookout point. He's a crazy dude and loves his rhymes. He took us sand boarding up this steep hill-lots of fun and plenty of sand in your mouth. lol :) Then we watched the 'cloudy'' sunset with a couple of beers..not bad for a relaxing evening!
