Day 3 "Families of New York" tour day..... A long day. Heidi, our tour guide, met us in the lobby at 9.00 am and from there we set off for a diner with singing wait staff. It was great food and fun to watch and eat! From the diner we headed off to learn the subway..... Jack has grasped it all so he is now the Subway Superhero. The subway took us to Central Park ( it might be pertinent to note that New York is experiencing unseasonably warm weather with today's temperature reaching 17 degrees about 10 degrees above the average ) so we got to see where John Lennon was shot and the subsequent "Strawberry Fields" memorial in Central Park. On our walk we managed to see squirrels frolicking in the grass and in the trees. A bus trip uptown a little took us to the Apple Store ( I needed a socket plug to be able to charge the iPad). It was amazing .... At least 3 times the size of new one at Southland. Next door is FAO Schwartz which was huge and packed. From here we wandered up the plush street window shopping to Tiffany's where went inside to admire the Jewellery. A quick visit for something special in A & F - photos up later...stay tuned..... From there we wandered through Grand Central station - very beautiful and all restored. After jumping on another subway, we headed off to Chinatown for some cheap but yummy Vietnamese. Then we headed off to the Seaport where we were going to catch the Staten Island past the Statue of Liberty but a change of plans took us up Wall Street , the NY SE and then onto World Trade Centre and the reflection pools... Unfortunately we were too late and will have to go back but the insight into the 9/11 from a local who lost family was worth every $, from there we wound our back to our apartment along a couple of subway lines.
The tour was due to finish a 5.00 pm but Heidi also got us cheap tickets for Top of the Rock . We finally parted ways with Heidi at 7.00 pm. We wandered up to Top of The Rock for the most amazing views of New York by night. After this we grabbed our Indian from next door ( fast becoming a favorite) to eat at home. Very proud of my family as we were on our feet for 10 hours. Early night for the kids as tomorrow we need to embark on some Christmas shopping and then a Night on th Town tour including a cruise to see the Statue of Liberty.
A top day although long and exhausting.... Loving New York!!!!
