Set off this morning and drove up to the Arundel Castle hoping to have a look at the famous cricket oval in the grounds, but opening time was 10.30am and we didn't want to hang around for that long! So it was off to Littlehampton and our first glimpse of the English Channel, driving through the quaint little seaside towns, all with their piers and sheltered harbours. We got to Brighton at noon and remarkably found a parking spot within 100 metres of the Pier - paid the obligatory parking fee - and had a ride on the Brighton Wheel (Ferris wheel) before wandering out onto the pier and having cod and chips for lunch, just like thousands of others were doing!
We got our first views of the white chalk cliffs at Seaford, following them for many kilometres, stopping at every stop off to get photos! They are certainly most impressive!
It took ages to cover any distance on the narrow, winding roads - we were fascinated by the rows of semi detached homes, all looking like they needed a serious makeover!
By mid afternoon we reached Eastbourne, which is a sizeable place with a lovely foreshore looking over the grey pebble beach.
Accommodation is so expensive in these towns - obviously those with an ocean view are - but even those a dozen blocks back are a steep price, and with our dollar being so weak against the pound it all adds up! We found a place on the ring road which was very comfortable and settled in!
The weather forecast for tomorrow is awful - gale force winds and heavy rain - so sightseeing along the cliffs around Dover is going to be difficult! A change of plan maybe in order! We were lucky to see so much today - windy but mostly sunny!
