Set off towards Windsor Castle this morning, in some light drizzle and grey skies, not really a great start but the weather can't be helped. We kept off the motorway and drove through some lovely areas with quaint little houses, tree lined roads and beautiful crops! The roads were narrow with the large trees touching overhead, making it like driving in a tunnel!
Saw Royal Ascot and the little town next to it and then we entered the huge grounds and fields that is Windsor Castle - the castle itself visible for miles!
We drove through the town and found a parking spot amongst the thousands of tourists, then walked up into the castle precinct! The museum was closed and it was $40 per head to actually enter the castle, so we wandered around a bit before returning to the car and setting off for a drive around the local area! We passed Eton College and numerous other recognisable landmarks and then headed towards Richmond Park, but were thwarted by heavy traffic and narrow roads, deciding to head south instead, towards the coast.
By about 2pm we had reached Guildford and stopped for lunch, then headed off through the nice rolling country to Arundel, where we decided to pull the pin on the driving and find some accommodation! We tried one highly rated hotel in the town that had free parking, but after a room inspection and price shock we found a Comfort Inn outside of town a bit and got 2 rooms! Typically the restaurant wasn't open on Sunday nights - luckily the bar was - so we had a couple of drinks and then walked over the road to a McDonalds and had very healthy wraps and salad!!!!! NOT!
Spent a lot of time driving through traffic today and probably wasted half of it - but we are now close to the coast and will follow the coastal drive tomorrow!
