We left Ceduna in search of yet another free camp and arrived for the night and Perlubie Beach, 21 km north of Streaky Bay. We couldn't get the bus onto the beach but join others who were setting up their campsites in the car park. Again we were greeted with our new friends ....the flies. After receiving a free dozen oysters back in Ceduna, that is a story not to be told here, and we now had two dozen shucked oysters it was time to cook some up. We did Oysters Kilpatrick with a creamy twist and they were stunning, for two people that said they didn't really like these shell fish.
We had a late start, as we were still adjusting to the 2 1/2 hour time difference we had travelled through. Off we drove into Streaky Bay which is a beautiful seaside town, very clean and neat and onto Elliston where we did the coastal drive between Anxious and Waterloo Bays and enjoyed the sights of the west coast of Eyre Peninsula stopping the night at Locks Well Beach, which is known for great Salmon fishing via access down to the beach by a 120 metre wooden staircase, again flies joined us, so it was a quite afternoon/evening in DABUS.
By midmorning the next day we drove into Coffin Bay, went down to the boat ramp where they use tractors to put in and pull out their oyster boats, drove up into the industrial area and bought some unopened oysters for $8 per dozen, fresh as fresh could be, as the owner had just arrived back in and we got the oysters straight off his boat, then off to a cafe, as Lorelle wanted to try a famous oyster pie, while Alan went for a plain meat pie. Don't understand who declares things famous, the oyster pie was ok and nothing really special.
After arriving in Port Lincoln we went for a walk down at the wharf, then onto buy some fresh seafood, fuelled up and onto the lookout, great views of the town/area.
As Bathurst was on for the weekend we needed to slow down and find a spot or two for a couple of nights. Our first stopover was at Cowleys Beach 70km north of Port Lincoln. We didn't intend on going that far but after stopping at one free camp, we picked up a huge rock in-between the duel tyres, Alan had to let the tyre pressure down and smash out the rock, which had done some damage to both inside walls of the tyres. At Cowleys beach we tried some fishing and we both got a flathead, one got away but it was a seafood dinner for us.
Our next stopover was just north of Point Lowly again tried some fishing in the Spencer Gulf but only got snags on the rocky base. Sunday was a layup day watching Bathurst.
