We left Norseman to cross the Nullarbor about midday, then drove 100km up the road before stopping for lunch. We spent two days crossing the Nullarbor, long days driving, as it was 37 degrees both days and every time we stopped we were invaded by flies in plague proportions. Our first overnight stop was at a rest area 6km east of Caiguna. We pulled in about 1/2 hour before dusk, only to step outside and be attacked by not only flies but also bees. We had to swelter inside the bus, inside temp of the bus was 36 degrees, it was like a sauna, until it got dark before we could venture outside and organise some dinner.
The next day we leave Western Australia after enjoying 3 months of stunning sights, amazing scenery and winter weather that you could live in forever.
Our day driving was broken up with the spectacular cliff views overlooking the Great Australian Bight, at each of the lookouts we were greeted by the ever so friendly - bloody flies.
At lookout #2 we arrived back at the bus only to see the bus had been invaded with not only our friendly flies but also wasps. We discovered at 80km/hour both the flies and wasps were still gripping to the windscreen and side windows. They eventually left us at 90km/hour.
We stopped the second night at Kidnippy Rest area, 19km west of Nundroo and yes you guest it - more flies.
Off to an early start the next day, we pulled into Penong, feeling very lucky we have had a tail wind since leaving Norseman, there is a new laundromat behind the general store in town, so a load of washing was put on.
An easy drive to Ceduna on lunchtime, so a quick stop at the Oyster shop just past the quantine check point we grabbed some fish and chips for lunch and some local fresh oysters. Neither of us a really true lovers of oysters but thought why not buy and try some, we are in the place to get them nice and fresh.
