Neil's journey
Writing this for the second time as the internet went down next door - didn't really moan as it's rambling rubbish anyway - I've also still got 3 and half months to do it again I thought. The woman next door had just finished a massive email though so was well annoyed.
Did nothing yesterday except go and watch a film. It was on the third floor of this coffee shop, really cool, comfortable and they bring you food too. The copy of pirates of the caribbean 2 they had was a bit ropey and looked like it had been copied from the audience at the vue cinema in shepherds bush though, complete with man getting up to use the toilet half way through...
In the evening met up with a couple of people from 'the bus' and went to a bar. They seem to love british bands but insist on playing that song from titanic - at which point we headed out into the street...
...where they have these inpromtu 'bars' selling local home-brew (bia-hoi don't you know). It works out to be about 12 pence a tupperware litre, smells like sick but tastes okay. You also sit on those kiddies plastic chairs which adds to the strange experience...
When you think things couldn't get any stranger, this woman turns up with one of those weighing machines from boots asking if I want to know my body mass index or something (in vietnamese though, it could say anything and I would be none the wiser). When I declined, she dragged the machine down the street looking for other weight-conscious punters. Now correct me if I'm wrong but isn't this the worst 'that will definitely catch on' business idea anyone has ever had. Can you imagine anyone drunk thinking 'what I really need now is a good, reliable weigh-in?' I think not.....
Went to two vietnam war exhibitions/museums today. Pretty horrific stuff on show naturally and obviously pretty anti-american. It reminded me how little I know about the vietnam war and made me want to read-up a bit. Considering the place that vietnam is now (market economy and all that - albeit in a one party state) you can't help but think what a massive waste of time the whole thing was - that sounds really simplistic, i think I'll get a book...
Vietnam has a really nice flag, I'll add it tomorrow with some other stuff.
