Left Phnom Penh this morning - decided to head into Vietnam as my visa only last until 12 10 06 (I hadn't realised you had to be exact about dates) otherwise would probably have seen some more of Cambodia. I'm on a 'tour' but so far I seem to be the only person on it! Loads of boats today, up the mekong and through immigration, people actually wear those big round hats like upside down fruit bowls from Ikea - I though that was just for the tourists, like kilts, or punks on postcards. Dropped off at hotel this evening just over the border, the man said he would come back and get me tomorrow at 0730hrs, I don't know where we're going, how long its for or where exactly I'm staying tomorrow night - am hoping it all comes clear tomorrow morning and I'm sure it will be great anyway - I've learnt you should just go with the flow really - you get to your destination, just not in the way you would ever envisage. First thoughts on Vietnam - strangely orderly after Cambodia - I'm warned that the people can be a bit sharkier at ripping you off - more constant negotiations over price then, although its usually the difference between a $1 and $1.50 so about 30 pence, i mostly can't be arsed - bought a cambodia national football team shirt before I left too - now there can't be many of those knocking about down the football on a thursday! Anyway must go, my 'cyclo' driver is waiting - yes a bicycle and bin on wheels at the back - he wants to take me for good food and then a bar with 'nice girls' - I think I'll give the last one a miss...
