Drive today past Guantanamo Bay along the coast where we saw the only "desert" type landscape so far in Cuba. Great ocean views, cactus and pretty barren land - its probably the first bit of land we have seen in Cuba that isn't being farmed. Then inland across the mountain range to Baracoa - spectacular rain forest scenery and then back to farm land as we headed to Baracoa. A drive of incredible contrasting countryside.
Ok Baracoa wins hands down. Our Casa is upstairs with a large bedroom, kitchen, bathroom toilet and 2 balconies - one towards the ocean and the other towards the mountains - fresh sea breezes and lots of natural light. Walking tour revealed an amazing small town on the ocean with great buildings, incredibly friendly people etc etc. We ended up at an impromptu street music session where we drank mojitos and Alan played the bongos in the band. Great atmosphere, fun place and we are loving the smaller villagey type feel after the relative busyness of Santiago. 3 nights here and we are so looking forward to it. Octopus, yabbies and lobster for dinner then - you guessed it - more music and another impromptu band appearance for Alan (known to the locals as Ernest Hemingway because of the beard)
