Virginia ok this morning so we headed off with the group on a city tour on our bus. First stop the cemetery where many heroes of the revolution are buried including Jose Marti the Cuban hero who ideas were the foundation of the revolution even though he lived 60 years before it occurred. Santiago is the cradle of the revolution because it was near here that Castro landed in the Granma ship and started the battle which eventually defeated the Batista dictatorship.
Then to Moncada Barracks where Castro's revolutionaries first attacked the Batistas and was defeated and exiled to Mexico in 1953. Now a school but bullet holes still in the outside walls.
Sorry 'bout the history lesson but we are just getting our heads around the sequence of events.
Then Plaza de la Revolucion and onto El Morro the massive fort built by the Spanish to protect the riches of the city from Caribbean pirates.
Internet for a while at the PO (no wifi or broadband so very slow) - Internet is illegal for Cubans to have in their homes or use in the PO. Dinner at our Casa tonight watching the Cuban baseball semi finals then more music with group.
Tomorrow a long slow windy drive along the coast through mountains past Guantanamo Bay to Baracoa a much smaller place where CC first landed and discovered Cuba
