Headed to the 5th town: Monterossa. It was very busy and very crowded with all the tourists at the beach. We just had a quick look around and jumped in the water before starting the LONG trek to the next town Vernazza.
To make a long story short: walk took about 2 hours, the heat was insane with humidity at 70%, we only had one bottle of water and we basically climbed up the mountain to the very top and back down again. I thought I was going to die! I love hikes but this was just too hot and we needed a ton more water. It was a pretty steep climb at some parts. On the plus the views were breathtaking, it was so impressive. It's crazy how some of these vineyards are all the way at the top! How do people get up there! Then relief sunk in when we finally saw the town of Vernazza - it was stunning looking at it from above, I was surprised how small it was. This town was the one that got hit really badly with the landslide (check out the pictures). When we were on the hiking trail we saw people still trying to clean up some of the mess.
When we finally reached the town we sought out a water source right away and had some well deserved gelato! It was so mouth watering delicious! Then Italians and their weird times for serving dinner we headed back to Manarola to my favorite restaurant and had a yummy pasta dinner. Then we jumped in the water! It was so refreshing !
After an extremely long day I crashed and slept like a baby.
Off the Nice in the afternoon !
