The journey from Brisbane to Noosa is short and painless. Getting up early after the previous nights nightmare was a bit of a struggle but it had to be done. The Oz experience is such a good thing to do as on the way there they took us to the Glasshouse Mountains and we trekked to the top of this HUGE hill to look across at the mountains, it was steep and there were soo many mozzies but the view and the crap abo story was worth it!
Arriving in Noosa was fab, we were staying the YHA, halse Lodge and all 3 of us loved it immediately. It looked like the little house on the prairie and the people there were lovely. Noosa and its "exclusive" Hastings Street has a really nice feel to it and the prices are pretty steep too. This would be a lovely place to come to on what I'd call a proper holiday where you can eat in the nicest restaurants and drink in the nicest bars.
Having got to our room and sorted ourselves out we went for a wander. Noosa is such a pretty little place. We went to the main beach and it was really busy as the kids were still off school from their summer holidays. Bev and I had said ages ago that we would love to go somewhere for seafood, really treat ourselves...this was the place to do it. For 65 bucks between us we ordered a platter....Crab, scallops, smoked salmon, prawns, cuttlefish, moreton bay bugs etc etc..it was amazing and Bev and I were so full we rolled out of the restaurant!
Noosa has a gorgeous national park and by walking a short distance we went to a beach called "Little Cove" it was such an idylic place with its small sandy beach and rocky areas...ahhhh Must not take these things for granted whilst I'm out here so have been trying to take it all in but sometimes you just cant believe that you are there experiencing all of this!
In the evening we went to our bar at the hostel with our roomie Josh and a couple of his mates. Josh was like our little brother and we felt as if we needed to look after him as he was on holiday from Adelaide. We then weent to Koalas backpackers to their bar and then onto Rolling Rock which is Noosa's club. We met up with Ryan and his mate, who I had met in Sydney as peoples paths cross so much whilst travelling. Keep bumping into people! Such a small world when doing the East Coast. Rolling Rock is a bit of a strange place, full off weirdo's that cant dance and then people that are clearly a sandwich short of a picnic. We ended up there a couple of times, but had free tickets to get in every time!
The next day we were all a bit tired, we were staying in Noosa for 5 nights so we could chill out quite a bit. We went to Little Cove again as we really liked it there. The next day we were going to Austalia Zoo and we were SOOOO excited.
The free bus picked us up from Noosa at 8:30am On AUSTRALIA DAY armed with a fully charged camera and 2 other excited girls (emma and Bev that is) we were off to the Zoo. Autralia Zoo was the late Steve Irwins Zoo and to be honest at the Zoo it almost felt as if he was still alive as there were loads of posters and pictures and even the videos had him in them. You cant get much more Australian than going to Australia Zoo on Australia Day. As obviously it is a special day for them Aussie legend John Williamson was singing live at the Crocoseum before the animal show, the 3 of us sat there like lemons not knowing the words to the songs whilst the Aussies bellowed out the words. It was a tad cheesy but hilarious all the same.
The animal show was good and the Zoo was a really nice size, not too big but big enough to see everything in one day. There were loads of Kangaroos that you could go upto and stroke and stuff which was really nice. The koalas were so cute and took about a millions pics of them! I was like a japanese tourist taking a picture at every opportunity. The Zoo was brilliant and we even fed an elephant although the cow working there wouldnt let us take a picture of us doing it cos "it would hold up the people behind".....Grr!
It was such a good day and on the way out we looked at all the tributes that people had sent to Steve Irwins family. I didnt realise what a big part he had played in Australia and it was easy to see by the amount of wall hangings and painting people had done to see how much he meant to the country. On the bus home we all fell asleep! As it was Saturday night and being Australia day we went to our hostel bar and then to Rolling Rock...still full of weirdo's and s***e music so we werent there too long and retired to our beds as we were shattered from the long tiring day!
As it was Sunday (the day of rest!ha ha) we went to Little Cove and chilled out all day it was gorgeous, it was probably the hottest day I've had here. In the evening we had the hostels BBQ and it was the yummiest bbq ever!!!!!
At Midday on Monday we were off to Rainbow beach for a couple of days.....
