Well, how flippin' random that I decided to come to Fiji! The flight out to Nadi was really funny as I say next to an 18 year old Kiwi who was off his rocker...made the 3 hours pass quickly.
I arrived in Nadi and it was so warm and lovely I knew I was going to love it, even if I didnt meet any people I could be quite happy basking in the sun and eating coconuts. On the first evening I met a couple of girls and we had a beer at Smugglers Cove Resort whilst watching the gorgeous sunset (this sunset malarky will be repeated quite a few times throughout) There was a traditional Kava ceremony at Smugglers that night and we all joined in. Bascially its a drink but its made of water and dried up Kava Plant leaves, its the gross and makes your tongue go funny but when in Rome.... I was on "Fiji time" instantly....utter relaxation.
I was off to Beachcomber Island the next day and had to be up really early, at my hostel at Breakfast I had met a couple of nice English girls called Kat and Becca who were also doing my trip which was fab. We got the boat to the "party Island' Beachcomber and settled in straight away, its a really small island but full of people and a few louts whco I ended up becoming buddies with. The sea was so blue it almost felt as if someone had chosen the most gorgeous topaz food colouring and spinkled it into the sea. The sand was as white as my over bleached over sunned hair. It was amazing. I randomly bumped into a girl, jane, that I had done western Australia with which was awesome. I met so many people, a group of Irish lads, Maria, Lex, James, Byron....I cannot even name them all! We all had a big night the first night and there was speacial Bula dances and fire shows...it was soo good. We danced the night away and had a great time... The only complaint I would make is that the music mainly consisted of Bon Jovi and Bob Marley...over and over!
On the first proper morning on my way to breakfast i slipped on a log and badly hurt my ankle.....I staggered down the girls who were having breakfast and almost passed out and nealy threw up. I iced it but I could barely walk, their first Aid kit didnt even had a bandage in it! I hobbled about and dosed myself up on drugs to stop the pain...ibruprofen wasnt good enough.... The day at the beach was gorgeous, so sunny and warm but I was still in pain...but what a place to be in eh? More people arrived that day and we had such a good time, we all watched sunset together and one of the lads carried me back to the bar, I thought he was going to collapse as he was walked with me on his back accross sand...silly boy! There were a coupld of lads from Hertfordshire called Dan and Joe and one of them gave me come Codeine for the pain which i was so happy about!!!!!!!! That night I was feeling a tad subdued but I still managed to have a good night and people were looking after me. Kev, one of the Irish lads bought me a cocktail and that certainly cheered me up. They also plonked me in the middle of the dance floor on a chair and got the singer to sing me a song. They didnt pick it themselves but he sang "Shes a Queen" which I was absolutely wetting myself laughing at...I couldnt be further from being a queen! It was so funny I couldnt even be embarassed. After all the excitement I retired back to my 103 bed dorm...how cosy...Next day we were off to Manta Ray.
Manta Ray was AWESOME right from the start. We were welcomed by a lovely song and I was carried off the boat by a fijian guy...so funny/embarassing but I actually couldnt walk. I met some more amazing people there, 2 spanish girls called Paula and Sandra who I got close to so quickly I even shed a tear when they left. We cooked under ground in a fijian style, spent time on the beach or falling asleep in the hammacks in the shade when the sun got too much. I hung out with a couple of boys from Beachcomber who I openly told were a pair of k*** head but they were such a good laugh they turned out to be fab! We drank straight out of coconuts and everyone...it was so awesome. Everyone laughed at me cos one of the girls had founf a walking stick shaped thingy on the beach and I was using it to get around, the boys named it my pimp stick and it was quite 50 cent although I felt more like 50 pence. Ferg and Dave arrived on Manta ray the day that everyone seemed to leave so it was really nice to see them. The sunsets were beautiful and after that we would have dinner and then play drinking games, I learned a new one called Enemies or friends. The entertainment was also really good from coconunt splitting to limbo etc, it was such a laugh and the fijian entertainment guy called Asere was so funny. The boys started a discusting habit of spitting water in my face, which seemed to continue throughout their stay at Manta Ray. I met this fab girl called Yvonne and she was travelling with a guy called Richard a 2 geordie lassies. We had such a laugh with them and some crazy norwegian guys and a guy called Dave that looked like Jason Statham. Cara, one of the girls that worked on the island said I looked like Britney Spears (ha ha yah funny eh..apparently its my sunnies) so whilst I stayed there they all called me Britney!
it was a shame I was a cripple as I couldnt join in with the dancing and stuff but I still had the best time. On the last evening myself and the boys watched the sunset for the last time together and then that evening we had a bonfire on the beach and the local village dancers came and performed for us. It was brilliant and another amazing night was had by all.
On my last morning at Manta Ray Island I visited the village which is a good 30 mins by boat. It was such a good thing to have done as you get taken to the school and meet all the kids.....they are soo happy and gorgeous and I can now understand why Angelina Jolie wants to take them all home cos I did too! they sang to us and they even performed the Haka as I was with a group of Kiwi boys. The lads also did the haka but the kids were a million tims better than they were. I went to their little market and bought a few little trinket things, and it was so cheap it was ridiculous. We walked around the village and went to the chuch and saw Kava plants that they use to make the drink. After that it was back to Manta Ray. They sang the goodbye song called "isa Lei" it was so sad to leave as I had spent 6 nights there and got to know the staff really well. On the boat I had to say goodbye to Dave and ferg which was really sad but I hope to meet up with them as they live in London. I also had to say goodbye to a great couple called Josh and Amy who I had spent 5 days with which was horrible. i really cant keep saying goodbye, its getting so much worse I think its because you meet such fantastic people and share the most amazing times with them and then you have to say "have a nice life!"
I got back to nadi and was welcomed by Becca who had come back from another island early. I spent a couple of nights just chilling and sorting myself out. We all decided that we had "Fiji brain" as we couldnt function properly and could barely speak english!
I had the best time in Fiji and met the most awesome people, I really dont want this travel lark to end....i want to see everyone at home but this life is amazing. Every day i meet someone new and learn something....really dont know what reality is these days and to be honest I love it that way...
