Hi everyone, it is Thursday evening and more eventful days. School is different every day and there is always something happening. Yesterday morning a girl fainted and did not regain consciousness for 2 hrs. She was taken unconscious to hospital on a scooter between two Khymer teachers, the first hosp couldn't do anything for her, so they had to go onto another one! She was given 2 lots of treatment by drip and then sent back in a tuk tuk - the teachers were told she needs vitamiins.
There is always someone in the office either asking for rice, repaying a little bit of money they have borrowed or asking for help of some kind or another. i find it hard to realise the bright children in the class have no bedroom, bed, clothes, bathroom, piped water, kitchen or anything comfortable, i cannot imagine how they copeduring the torrential storms that we are having or with the heat and humidity. Yet they are so keen to learn and desperate to learn English as they believe it will help them improve their life. I have helped tonight at an adult class - we were doing: I've, haven't, hasn't, we've, etc and none of them had a kitchen, loo, shower, armchair, sofa, cooker etc - food is bought off the street/market or cooked over a fire. The income of most of these families is about 20$ (£10) a month if they are lucky. A Khymer teacher earns about £25 a month, policeman £34 so you can imagine life is tough if no reg job. Most our kids parents try to grow and sell a few veg and fish and odd jobs.
We have had more rain storms this week, but not as many as expected. This morning after cycling to school my trousers and legs had turned bright orange with the mud. As I cycle along there is always someone shouting, "Cher, cher!" Everyone is so friendly. Yesteday I met a man leading two water buffalo along the road. None of the animals you seel look healthy, all skin and bone, covered in horrible looking things and flea ridden.
I have seen my wedding outfit, now need to lose weight before I have it made.
Will be on hol for school for an 'Ancestors Festival' when Meryl and Jon arrive so will be able to take them around more - hope they are prepatred to ride bikes here too!
Will download photos in a min. Most wer taken yest am in local market, rest at school I think.
Take care everyone - skype and send messages it's ghood to read them.
