Today we toured Dunedin. Since we are staying an extra night at this campground, we took a taxi to the town centre and did a lot of walking from there. What a great town!
First we went to the Otago Settlers Museum which had a wonderful transportation exhibit; Bob enjoyed the old coaches, cars, motorcycles and even an old travel trailer. It also had exhibits from the early settlers of Dunedin.
The train station was practically next door and is gorgeous, as you'll see in the photo. Then we went to the very center of town, which is in an octagon shape. We saw the statue of Robert Burns and lots of beautiful churches. We ate roasted pumpkin soup for lunch, with cheese rolls (rolled up bread slices around melted cheese), a flat white and a long black, and it was great. Looked at some cashmere hats but they were too expensive for us. It's cool enough for them, however.
Then we walked to the Otago Museum which was fabulous. They have a great natural history area which includes an exhibit relating to Charles Darwin, in honor of his 200th birthday. There are also exhibits about early settlers including the Maori ancestors, and a very interesting maritime section which included lots of models of old ships.
Then we visited the Otago University -- beautiful Scottish architecture. We rode a bus home and shopped for groceries at a little store across the street from the campground.
Our "new" router was waiting there at the campground, so now I'll be able to write the daily travel blogs in the comfort of our campervan. This blog is a great way to keep family and friends informed.
