On our way to Nelson, we stopped by a recreation area called Rabbit Island. It has a wonderful sandy beach. We saw a couple baiting their “Seahorse” which is a fishing device. It has a propeller driven torpedo which takes a long fishing line with many baited hooks 2km out into the sea. After an hour they will retrieve the line and expect to catch many snapper. Some fishermen in NZ use a kite to take a similar line out to the sea.
Then we stopped at the Seifried winery and sampled a few of their wines. I bought a nice Pinot Gris which we are enjoying at this moment.
This afternoon we visited the town of Nelson. Then we took the advice of a local fisherman and had our Thanksgiving dinner at the Boat Shed, which is right over the water. Bob wanted to try the local delicacy “whitebait” which is a tiny little fish, translucent and wormlike. He said it was delicious. I enjoyed snapper for my Thanksgiving dinner.
We found a campground in Nelson right on the beach. When we checked in, the clerk asked us if we were here for the show. Tomorrow they are hosting a big motorhome show; we enjoyed looking at some of them this evening during our evening walk.

Patty Peabody OHMYGOSH It has taken me until Thanksgiving to realize I could comment on this site. I have LOVED your blogs! and the photos are terrific. I had no idea that NZ had penguins. Your camper must have a really small kitchen if spaghetti is a challenge. Do they call it a "can opener kitchen?" Sorry about the sand fleas, Bob. We know about those in FL.
