It's hard to believe that we've been here a week already. We were on the road by 6:30 AM for the five hour drive from Wanaka to Christchurch. We drove for two hours without seeing another vehicle. It was a cloudy morning, so the lakes did not look as blue as they did last weekend.
We arrived in Christchurch in time to do some sightseeing. Christchurch is described as the most English of NZ's cities. We visited Victoria Park and watched punting on the River Avon. We walked to Cathedral Square, looked inside the famous church and watched the various entertainment while we had fish and chips for lunch (which we had to guard from the seagulls which attacked us in order to steal our fish).
Then we returned our rental car and accepted delivery of campervan which will be our transportation and our home for the rest of our vacation. We'll have to get used to living in the small space and making the bed while on top of it. We brought along a lot of gear, so we spent the rest of the evening putting everything away efficiently. I'm glad that we packed our clothes in two dufflebags; they fit perfectly end-to-end on one side of our dinette.
Our campervan also has a small, but well-equipped kitchen, a safe, a TV, and a bathroom with a rod that we'll use for hanging wet clothes as well as towels. We are supposed to have a router, but first they forgot to bring it to us, and then the one they brought did not work, so I had to use the campground internet tonight. They promised to bring us another one in a day or two, which will help immensely.
