We headed over to Invercargill unsure what to expect. The book says it is full of boy racers and girls with big hair, and Bill tells us the locals
are rednecks. We arrive and our accommodation is awesome, the best we have stayed in so far. The lady at the desk seemed normal enough so all was good. The town itself was a little shabby, a bit like a poor mans Manchester, not very pretty. It's fair to say we spent most of our time in our lovely room watching Telly and saving money!! We did eventually wander out and pottered around the gardens, saw some ducks. Then to the cinema to see Pirates of the Caribbean. That's when we met the weird local in the shop - a bit like the boy with spots in the Simpsons. Anywhoo, not much more to report from Invercargill. The drive over to Dunedin (our next destination) took us through the Catlins National Park. This was a pretty drive, although not as mountainous as the rest of New Zealand. We stopped at a couple of places on the way. First stop was the most Southern point of New Zealand. We then stopped at a bay which was covered with fossils of a forest which was 180 MILLION years old. Next we stopped at a waterfall - Clare fell over - James laughed and wanted to take a photo, Clare politely declined. Next we stopped at Curio Bay, with the promise of seeing Sea Lions - there were none there. And last but not least we stopped at Nugget point where we saw a Seal and a couple of Penguins. A lovely day with some great sites. Then it was onto Dunedin to meet Bill and Leah.
